Mira Pütz
Guest Researcher
Mira Pütz is a political scientist and public policy professional with management experience at the German Federal Economics Ministry. As Guest Researcher at the Freigeist Research Group ‘Geopolitics in the Age of Offshore Finance’, her contribution to the analysis of money and energy encompasses both thematic expertise, experience in political communication and a deep procedural and strategic understanding of the politics of policy making.
Since her Master’s at Sciences Po Paris, her research and political practice has been a study in what one may call ‘the power of the process’: how democratic innovations may shift the balance between individual interests and the common good. How the taxation of multinational enterprises and regulatory work to curb organised financial crime at OECD- and EU-level are shaped by historically-grown structures. And how complex and delicate the work of changing policies – and politics - in long-standing institutions can be. After all, how can one separate the process from the people inhabiting it?
It is this experience which guides Mira’s work as a Guest Researcher, using the EU Green Deal policy package as a case study of complex, future-oriented policy making in times of crisis, which had been at the centre of her work as Chief of Staff and Political Advisor to a State Secretary in the Federal Economics Ministry.
Previously, she has advised the President of the European University Institute in Florence on the future of public policy education – and on the role universities could play in public policy making.
