Advances in Studying the Offshore World

On 26–27 March 2026, a two-day conference at Sciences Po CERI brings together scholars to explore new perspectives on offshore finance and its global impact.

The event is co-organized by Ricardo Soares de Oliveira (Sciences Po–CERI / CNRS) and Andrea Binder (Freie Universität Berlin), and convenes an international group of researchers working across political science, political economy, and related fields.

Across a series of panels and discussions, participants examine the role of elites in shaping offshore systems, trace the historical development of financial secrecy jurisdictions, and analyse the international political dynamics surrounding offshore finance. The conference also engages with broader conceptual questions, including how offshore structures intersect with state power, global inequality, and evolving forms of economic governance.

By combining empirical research with theoretical reflection, the conference highlights recent advances in the field and opens up new avenues for interdisciplinary exchange.
