You lose – I win

Berlin Review, published on 02.05.2025

An essay by Andrea Binder has been published in the current issue of the Berlin Review. Titled You Lose—I Win, the piece analyzes Stephen Miran’s strategy paper A User’s Guide to Restructuring the Global Trading System, which outlines a proposed realignment of U.S. trade policy under the label of the “Mar-a-Lago Accord.”

At the core of the proposal is the idea of deliberately devaluing the U.S. dollar to increase the competitiveness of U.S. industry. Binder situates the paper within current geopolitical and economic developments and discusses its potential implications for the international financial order, global trade dynamics, and the role of the dollar as a reserve currency. The essay offers a critical analysis of the economic and political ideas underlying Miran’s vision.
